the

baker fAMILY

The Baker family show themselves to be highly sadistic, violent, blatant, cannibal and unpredictable towards survivors, notably Clancy Jarvis and Ethan Winters. As a result of Eveline's control, Jack and Marguerite are unstable and have a strained relationship, often yelling at each other, noticeable in 'The Bedroom.' For their children, Zoe and Lucas, who are not under Eveline's control, they are polar opposites of each other. Zoe aids survivors to escape and get the serum to rid of the virus. Lucas plays and tortures the captives, showing his psychopathic nature.

Members

Jack Baker

Early life

As a child, Jack often fought with his older brother Joe, who boasted of breaking his nose and clothes-lining him in the swamp.

At a later point in his life, Jack served in the United States Marine Corps. He also became the owner of a 19th-century ranch in the Louisiana countryside, possibly handed down to him by his family, married Marguerite Baker and sired two children, Lucas and Zoe.

Personality

Prior to Eveline's arrival, Jack Baker was a family man. However, he was not above physically disciplining his son Lucas, once having slapped him for using his cellphone at the dinner table. He also did not tolerate cursing, scolding Lucas for cursing during breakfast, though Jack himself became much more expletive under infection.

Under Eveline's influence, Jack is a highly sadistic and violent individual who wears a manic grin most of the time, and was willing to attack anyone who had angered him at the slightest provocation. He is very abusive towards his son Lucas, even slicing his arm off at one point (with Lucas himself implying that this wasn't the first time it happened). He's also verbally abusive towards his wife and made a motion with his hand implying that he was going to hit her. Even under Eveline's influence, however, it is revealed that he ultimately still cared for his family, as he was genuinely angry that Ethan tried to get Zoe to turn against him (even though Zoe was already against him long before Ethan arrived) and that he had killed Marguerite.

ABILITIES

As a benefit of his infection by the Mold, Jack possesses a significantly increased strength beyond that of a man of his age and build. Jack is shown effortlessly throwing his victims through walls, tear off the roof of a car with his bare hands, and wield obscenely large weapons in combat, including homemade shears. He can also use smaller weapons with amazing precision and strength, as shown when he destroys a dinner table with a shovel, splintering it.

Jack's regeneration is on a whole different level as compared to the rest of the Baker family. He is a constant enemy to his victims as he is invulnerable to conventional means of attacks. Even when shot in the heart or the head, it will only stun him for a few seconds, and though he can 'die' if damaged enough, he will simply rise again after a set period of time.

Marguerite Baker

Early Life

Marguerite was the matriarch of the Baker family, which consisted of her husband, Jack, and children, Lucas and Zoe. They lived on a large plantation in the Louisiana swamps, comprising a mansion and an older house, with mines and a pier nearby.

Personality

Marguerite was once a caring, dutiful and traditional aged housewife who became twisted under Eveline's "gift", becoming a demented and psychopathic shell of her former self. Even when she initially became infected by Eveline's gift, she showed some hints at her prior nature, where she tells Zoe to come out of hiding in a gentle manner to meet Eveline (a noticeable contrast with her treatment of Mia in a similar situation later on where she was very hostile even when she tries to find her), and will noticeably hesitate to harm Zoe and even fight off Eveline's control long enough for Marguerite to give Zoe a key to the family car so the latter can find help.

Marguerite still attempts to treat her "guests" with care, only to serve up human organs and Eveline's corrupting gift as meals. When her food is refused or she is challenged in general her sweet facade drops, revealing a violent and unhinged individual who threatens in the most disturbing ways imaginable.

Abilities

Out of all of the Baker family members, she is the most visibly inhuman upon receiving Eveline's "gift", sporting demonic eyes and gaining the ability to control mutant insects. Belying her frail appearance, Marguerite possesses superhuman strength and speed.

LUCAS BAKER

early life

Lucas was apparently a "bad seed", but despite his unruly ways, he was a gifted inventor and won several awards for his work which he displayed in his room. He also mentioned having gotten a jigsaw puzzle from his mom as a reward for going to the hospital for a head scan.

It can be presumed that he was already mentally unstable.[3] He also chronicled the time when he trapped one of his childhood bullies, Oliver, in the attic and sealed it with a remote, leaving him to die of thirst and starvation. He then fused the remote with one of his trophies, disguising it as a lamp to prevent Zoe from getting into the attic.

By 2014, he and his sister were still living at their parents' house. After a storm hit the surrounding area, Lucas went outside and found a shipwrecked tanker. Telling his father about it, they went to investigate but found only one survivor; Mia Winters. Lucas then brought Mia in.

Personality

Prior to Eveline's arrival, although overall still unpleasant, he did make an effort to live a normal life. In addition, he also was shown to sense something was deeply wrong with his dad when Eveline started to take control of the family, most notably by showing his own fears when Jack dragged him off to "meet Eveline." towards the end of the Daughters DLC.

His sadistic personality, at least after the arrival of Eveline, is as ingrained into his personality as it gets. It is unclear as to whether or not this sadism developed from (or was simply amplified by) Eveline's influence on his family, or was simply cemented into his personality from his childhood as a bullied, self-avenging genius. Although he shows no emotional remorse for his actions, his email to The Connections implied that he did feel annoyed at having to clean up after the family for the "new visitors". According to a file found in the game, it is revealed that Lucas once killed a bully named Oliver by locking him up in the attic and letting him starve, thereby implying that Lucas was already a psychopath by the time Eveline showed up.

Lucas gleefully bullies and belittles "guests" of the Baker family, from throwing food at them to imprisoning victims in his latest "games". Lucas promises his victims freedom should they successfully complete his challenges, but given the rigged nature of the "games" that killed Clancy and Hoffman, it is clear that he takes too much pleasure in their agonizing deaths to actually give his victims a chance at legitimately winning and earning their freedom.

Abilities

Just like his parents, Lucas has incredible regenerative abilities, being able to regrow his arm after it had been sliced off by Jack, with Lucas implying that this wasn't the first time it happened. Despite his superhuman abilities, Lucas never directly confronts his victims or chases them around the house, instead preferring to rig up elaborate traps and "parties" for his victims while taunting them via video recordings.

ZOE BAKER

early life

Zoe lived with the Baker Family on the Plantation in Dulvey, Louisiana, with her parents and older brother Lucas. Zoe did an art project in the fourth grade of her and her family which hung in the dining room. There was an incident where Zoe called Lucas a pervert for watching her do yoga

Personality

Zoe loves her family, but realizes that they have been transformed into monsters. It is implied that she has helped multiple "visitors" to the farm when she remarked that Ethan is the only one who has made it "this far" after he escaped to the yard. Her helpfulness, however, could be self-motivated, as she wants to escape her own house and her monstrous family members. Also, having lived at the house, she would know the ways in and out.
